Super Cool Sketchblog!

Super Cool Sketchblog is BACK! This weeks’ theme is “Awful OCs”. BACK IN MY DAY “OC” wasn’t a term that anyone used. I never really understood its purpose, but I’m thinking that maybe now on an internet FILLED with fanart an “original character” is a rarity and needs its own name to differentiate from the sea of homestuck and adventure time drawings. I think the term “OC” is a phrase that mostly inexperienced artists use, or maybe at least artists who don’t take themselves seriously, which leaves a ton of room for really really awful art. I’m not saying I’m not guilty of doing it myself, though. 12 year old anime-obsessed Johnman drew plenty of enormous sparkly eyeballs and gravity defying multicolored hair, and that’s what this week is all about! The challenge is to create a terrible OC and draw it as a super inexperienced/young artist would, and then draw it with all of your current skills. HAVE FUN!

JOHN HERE! WHEW! Okay, so my favorite thing about winter is SNOW, and I was thinking about how to draw snow, so I thought of drawing a snowman…BUT THEN IT HIT ME! I decided to draw the scene between Fozzy and the snowman in A Muppet Family Christmas, MY FAVORITE MUPPET MOVIE EVER where they’re outside singing together :D They never actually both say “wakka wakka” but it’s not too far of a stretch. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

(*edit* Here’s a clip of the scene! Also I have no idea if that’s how you spell wakka wakka. Is it wocka? Is it wacka? Is it 3 instead of 2? Should I have looked that up before I made this? Does it matter?)

John here. Okay so I clearly rushed through this but I really wanted to make something in color and I couldn’t think of a single thing to draw until yesterday but I already had plans to go out yesterday and I’ve been busy making up schoolwork and I have a midterm on monday and my brain is completely fried today. DEM LEAVES MAKE ME THINK OF AUTUMN.

This is John, and this week we’re doing our first SUPERCOOLSKETCHSWAP! What happens is that each of us do a quick concept sketch based on the theme, pass it along to another supercoolsketchblog member, and then they use that concept sketch to make some arts! If that sounds confusing, you’ll definitely understand it once Zack posts on tuesday

The theme this week is ASTRONAUTS. Let’s make some art that’s OUT OF THIS WOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD!

John here! This is B.B. Wolfe, Attorney at Law. I definitely could’ve made that more obvious in the actual drawing but I was having a super hard time with this drawing so cut me some slack! I’m not at ALL used to drawing things traditionally. In my artistic endeavors I kinda skipped over all of the tough basic stuff you’re supposed to learn in the beginning and went right to the easy stuff (using a computer and drawing cartoons) so I sorta missed stuff like crosshatching. Heh. SO SERIOUSLY CUT ME SOME SLACK. Anyway, I figured since the big bad wolf was so good at fooling little red riding hood, he’d probably make a good lawyer. HA!

I’m super excited about the topic I’m going to be posting tomorrow :D It’s going to be a bit different from what we’ve done so far!

sup dudes. the ol’ aubster here with the second sketch topic! i thought of the topic “fairy tales in real life”! we gotta draw any fairy tale characters we’d like, but they have to be put into modern situations, doing regular things. i also think it’d be cool if we gave em’ an updated look. so yeah! have fun guys!

Welcome to the first week of Super Cool Sketchblog!

Zack here, and for those of you who have no idea what this is, here’s the skinny: Aubrey (HurricaneAubrey), John (DudeNeedaEaseOnUp/Johnman) and myself (zacharyxbinks) decided that we wanted to do a sketchblog! And if you aren’t familiar with that, it’s just a blog where we sketch stuff and show them off!

We are going to make a post every Sunday and throughout the week post our drawings that fit that theme. This week is my turn to pick the theme and I picked “Myth Highschool”. Basically, I think it’d be fun if we all drew different mythological/folklore figures in an archetypal high school role. The only conditions are that we can’t use the obvious stuff like the Universal monsters legacy (no high school werewolves, draculas, etc.) because that’s been done to death. Anyway, I can’t wait to see what we make this week and I hope you can’t either! Make you follow us if you’re interested in seeing what we’ll draw in the future.
